n
the centre of Lentiai lies a "jewel" belonging to the Family Vecellio:
the church of Santa Maria Assunta dating back to the end of the
15th century, further enlarged and restored in 1568. Its main work
is the large polyptych behind the main altar depicting on the centre
the Madonna Assumption, above the Christ Deposition and all around
some Saints, among which a San Tiziano presumably executed by the
same Tiziano.
nother
remarkable work is the coffered ceiling by Cesare Vecellio executed
between 1577 and 1579 (20 scenes depicting Maria's life as well
as 48 panels with biblical scenes. Among his further works are the
twelve Apostles in the nave, San Rocco and San Sebastiano in the
right aisle, the Christ Deposition, on the left of the apse, the
Madonna del Rosario on the left aisle.

is the 16th-century art of Jacopo Negretti, also known as Palma
il Giovane, with its two altar-pieces depicting respectively the
Baptism of Christ and the Crucifixion (end of the 16th century,
beginning of the 17th century).

Busche and Feltre, precisely at Nemeggio, the parish church is worth
a visit. It features a Madonna del Rosario with San Domenico and
Santa by the 17th-century artist Girolamo Turro (1689 - 1739). By
following the sign towards Villapaiera, you reach a small town with
a monumental 19th-century church which in fact incorporates the
ancient church of San Martino of late medieval origins. It features
a Last Supper with Lobsters dating to 15th century. Remarkable is
also a Madonna with Child, San Martino and San Vittore by Francesco
Frigimelica (1560 - 1646).
The presence of these animals in several
frescos found in the Venetian region from 14th to 16th century clearly
indicates a symbology, though not yet verified (symbol of the Resurrection
or of the heresy theories beyond the Alps
which ran the risk of catching on in our regions ?).
