According
to BOSIO, the route runs along the left side of the Piave river,
along Falzè di Piave, Moriago, Mosnigo and Valdobbiadene (the old
Dulpavilis and mansio Ad Cerasias mentioned in the Itinerarium Antonini).
From here through Segusino, Vas, Scalon, Caorera and Marsiai, the
road reaches Villapiana, passes on the right side of the Piave river
at Busche, to reach Cesiomaggiore and Feltre.
OSADA's
recent hypothesis identifies the first stretch of the via Claudia
Augusta in the straight stretch Altino-Quarto d'Altino, Treviso
and Montebelluna, on the basis of topographic (Quarto d'Altino =
ad quartum lapidem, Postioma = located at the crossroads with the
Postuma route) and centurial confirmations (the stretch Treviso-Montebelluna
= the westernmost kardo of the Treviso province).

From Montebelluna,
the route reaches Levada, then Fener
to meet a road coming from Oderzo.
According to the author, the milestone at Fener
which has always been linked to the via Aurelia extension (Padova,
Asolo, Feltre), should be referred to the stretch Fener-Feltre,
taking the via Claudia Augusta as reference.
Finally, from Feltre the via Claudia
Augusta leads to Arten, Castel
Tesino, Borgo Valsugana, Levico, Tenna and Trento,
then from Merano passing by the Venosta
valley through the Resia pass (at
that time northern border of the Roman Empire) to the Danube
plains.
ecent
surveys make it clear that the only route named after Claudio was
the one crossing the X Regio from the Adige up beyond the Alps through
the Resia pass, leading to new routes or intersecting old roads
in a close network where Altino, Feltre and Trento are main junctions.
Claudio's work allowed a definite consolidation of the link between
the Po plains and the Danube area.
