he Via Claudia may have reached Cesiominore
and passed south of Cesiomaggiore towards Marciai, a crossroads
between the Claudia Augusta and a Roman commercial route. From here
through Formegan and Campo towards Nave. In this area several Roman
findings were brought to light (tombs, coins). The way towards Nave
(the toponym indicates the presence of a pontoon bridge to cross
the Piave river !!) continues towards Tiago, S.Donato and the Zumelle
Castle. According to Alpago Novello, Cesiomaggiore was the most
important town along the Via Claudia. The place was inhabited already
in the Roman age. Pagina 36 The town centre features the church
of S.Maria Assunta , where a milestone belonging to the Via Claudia
was found. Used in 1786 to bear an altar, belongs today to a private
collection at Villa Tauro delle Centenere.
