popular culture of the feltrino area features the typical and recurring
elements of the piedmont and mountain areas. In the past, when the
healing means were insufficient, the rural population relied on
empiric treatments based on the healing properties of some plants,
on the easy procurement of ingredients and on half magic, half ritual
practices. For instance, they used linseed poultices (pape de lin)
against bronchial disease, elder syrup (miel de sanbuc) as an expectorant,
pumpkin seeds (ziés de zucōt) as vermifuge.

faith was placed to the intervention of some thaumaturge saints
such as Saint Susanna (Mount Avena)
against whooping cough, Saint Marcello
(Umin) against earache, Saint Biagio
(Pren e Menin) against sore throat and Saint
Libera (Cart) for birth. The close relation with the ground
was carried out in a series of different ritual practices for each
season. Among these, the so-called "bāter mārz" which consisted
in a group of young boys and girls running through the countryside
in order to wake up nature. "Brusa la vecia" (set fire to the old
lady) is another well known spring ritual. Also the stages of life,
birth, wedding and death were featured by specific practices.
